In some messages people make references like "Have a look in the news
group alt.binaries.pictures.furniture."

Just using that as an url doesn't work.

Can someone post a complete link that would get me there?

Thanx in advance

Nope. You can't get there from where you are - you'd need to use a news
server that provides access to binaries groups.

Be aware, some ISP s are now blocking the entire alt.*.* newsgroups.
This includes all alt.binaries.pictures

No, they are not. They have deleted those groups fron their servers,
but they are not "blocking" them.

I understand that "picking nits" is good sport on the net, However, in this
case, I see no point in the distinction

There! Now **I've** picked a nit, too. ;-)

The point is that even if your ISP has dropped the groups, you can still read
and post in those groups by using *your* ISP to access some *other*
newsserver that still carries them. Thus, your ISP is not blocking them; it
simply no longer provides them.

Which ISPs would those be?

I'm aware that a handful of the larger ISPs have dropped alt.binaries.*, but
I'm unaware of any that have dropped the entire alt-dot hiercarchy or are
actually *blocking* access to it.

Verizon has dropped all but the big 8.

Verizon has dropped the entire alt. hierarchy. The now only provide
access to the "Big 8" (comp.; humanities.; misc.; news.; rec.; sci.;
soc. & talk.)

Actually, the pipe provided by Verizon FOS is pretty good. My triple
play package (their basic TV, nationwide phone w/ voicemail, caller ID,
and 20/5Mbps internet) costs me ~$120/mo including 2 standard def STB's.
However, I do not really use their email, and definitely not their
webspace or their webportal stuff. I have an Astraweb "subscription" for
newsgroups not covered by Verizon - $10 for 25 GB of downloads which I
still used about 1 (one) GB of since June.

It's the pipe that counts, the rest is fluff.

You can find them on the web using the usenet replayer site.

Here's the link:
http://www.usenet-replayer.com/groups/alt.binaries.pictures.furniture.html

P.S. you can hit the alt.binaries.pictures.woodworking site also through the
replayer. That's where most of us post stuff.
